A nervous hello there

Postby NikkiLee » Fri Jul 06, 2012 2:08 am

Hi there :) My name is Nikki...Im a mum of 4 sons all over 11...im single....a hermit...and have had severe depression and anxiety for many many years...I have a lot of experience in trying to deal with it...3 breakdowns, 2 hospitalisations...and a knack for tellin doctors to shove it :)

The only thing that keeps me going in this life...is my humor...if i dont have a big laugh everyday...i spiral down and down...i take on bad energy from others like a sponge...but im too dam weak to deflect it...therefore i stay home, hide...and refrain from makin too many friends and im terribly fearful with relationships...its a lonely life....very lonely....BUT ...I have kids to be caring for...so I guess...I will just hang there on the edge until they are all old enough to care for themselves :)

Hopefully this isnt another forum of badasses, group bullying, or nasties...wish me luck :P

To be perfectly honest, in the case of some Doctors it is better to tell them to shove it rather than waste time talking to a person who doesn't really get it. This reminds me of a story that I submitted into this site a short time ago.

After my first wife died, my 14 year old daughter and I were having some problems so I decided to go to a counselor for some help. After explaining some of our problems he stated that this would need a significant number of sessions to sort out our problems.

On our second visit, I spent about 10 minutes filling him in on our background. He had not said a word and seemed to be distracted. I decided to ask him for his opinion on what I had said. I swear to God that he bolted upright as if he was going into shock. I think he was thinking about his own problems and wasn't paying any attention to what I had said.

I told him that I hadn't come there just to tell our story. I already knew our story. I came there for help and if he wasn't even going to listen to what I was saying, I wasn't going to waste my time coming to see him. I said if my daughter wanted to come and see him that was fine with me but she never went back either. I think his main achievement was to talk us into as many visits as possible to show his bosses that his job was valuable. Maybe if he learned how to listen to people, his job would have been valuable.

I'm going to copy and paste a story in here that I think you will like. Give me a few moments to find it and use the edit button to bring it into this site.

The following is a story that my 48 year old daughter thinks is hilarious. I think it is biased and unfair. Smile Smile

GOD IS GOOD!!

Housework is a woman’s job but one evening when Jenny arrived home from work she found that her husband had bathed the children, one load of washing was in the washer and another was in the dryer. Dinner was on the stove and the table was set. Jenny was astonished.

It turned out that her husband had read an article that said that wives who work full-time and had to do their own house work, were too tired to have sex.

The night went well and the next day she told her office friends all about it. “We had a great dinner. Ralph even cleaned up. He helped the kids with their homework, folded all the laundry and put it away. I really enjoyed the whole evening.”

“But what about afterwards?” asked her friends.
“Oh, that --- Ralph was too tired.”

God is good!! Laughing Laughing

You think that you are too weak to deflect it but you're not. If you can express yourself as fluently as you are doing with your message, you can deflect others criticism away from you. Certainly, you should try to learn from others if their ciriticism has merit. But if you sense that their criticism is unwarranted, do not, and I repeat, --- DO NOT --- give them the power to drag you down.

They do not deserve to have such power over you. Try what I am suggesting. So far your various approaches are not working. Give my ideas a try and see if they work any better. Then come back in here and either tell me I don't know what I am talking about or, say --- how about that, --- you just might be right.

Well young lady, (I am 74 years old and happily married.) I am sure that you will find this forum is different. It is chock full of people with a large amount of empathy, caring and a firm desire to help rather than hinder another persons desire for happiness in this incredible journey that we call --- life.

Cheers to you and please, --- don't be a stranger. :)

Welcome!

Welcome Nikki! I hope you find what you need here. While I've never had a negative experience, this forum tends to move at a very slow rate compared to others I am on, so if you are patient, someone will come along and respond. I don't know about you, but by the time I post, I'm a bit desperate for a response, so that can be trying. I am not trying to be negative, but just set your expectations and try to make sure you do not take it personally. Take care and hope to hear from you soon!
