A question to think about

Postby Warmsoul/Jeanie13 » Tue Aug 12, 2008 10:46 pm

Depression in children is often over-looked. How can society better help the young that deal with depression. In a manner that could possibly help them face all that comes to them, through depression, in their adult life?

the role of parents in the pursuit of ensuring children grow up without depression cannot be underestimated... in fact... loving and caring parents who know how to give and take from the child is the key ingredient in fostering a healthy environment for a child to grow up in... all too often when you trace problems in adulthood the compass points right back to their childhood upbringing... unfortunately... there are too many parents who are not ready to be parents... :(

just another thought.....

Postby JudeB » Mon Aug 18, 2008 12:11 am

I was reminded once again by someone today that people that have never experienced the utter hopeless feelings that come with depression; can't conceivably understand it.

Maybe some of us have to go through it so that we can help identify it in other adults AND children.

I hope that made sense. I am as non-linear as all get out.lol

i completely agree with you on this... just by observing myself, i find that each time i am able to emphatise (take on and feel the emotions and feelings of other people) with others only after i have gone through a similar situation, without having gone through such a situation, whatever understanding i thought i had was just superficial, and i did not REALLY feel it... it would have been just a conceptual thing that doesn't really touch deeply in my heart... like describing what colour is, to a person that was born blind...

it takes a person to WANT to emphatise with others, and to have gone through similar experiences, for a person to be able to really share the pain and emotions of another...

One of the greatest things my mother said to me is:

The greatest lessons are those you live. She was a wise woman.

I appreciate your thoughts. That is exactly what I was trying to say. I know lots of words, almost went to the national spelling bee as a kid,(yeehaw.lol), but since my depression, I just can't access them. Like they are behind a "firewall" ya know?
I sure appreciate you guys for getting my meaning when I have trouble expressing myself.
Thank you!

(((((((((((((((((( JudeB ))))))))))))))

Be proud of your knowledge, something you have worked tp obtain.

LOL know the feeling of that 'firewall' that comes with this depression we live with. Amazes me how, through it all, we do keep going.

YW and thank you for replying and sharing. What it is all about.
