i completely agree with you on this... just by observing myself, i find that each time i am able to emphatise (take on and feel the emotions and feelings of other people) with others only after i have gone through a similar situation, without having gone through such a situation, whatever understanding i thought i had was just superficial, and i did not REALLY feel it... it would have been just a conceptual thing that doesn't really touch deeply in my heart... like describing what colour is, to a person that was born blind...
it takes a person to WANT to emphatise with others, and to have gone through similar experiences, for a person to be able to really share the pain and emotions of another...
