Feeling Overwhelmed

Postby msmely » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:41 am

I'm feeling very overwhelmed right now. I don't know whats wrong with me. But I feel tired all day and nothing makes me feel happy. I used to be such a positive person and it came so easily. And now...nothing? I'm so terrified that tommorow I'm going to have another bad day. I don't think I can handle one more bad day.

I'm sorry for posting this topic but I just needed to say something. I don't want to burden my mother or friends any longer with my feelings.

Hi (((( msmely ))))! Welcome to the forum! :)
You ABSOLUTELY have no need to be sorry for posting this topic! Afterall, that's what this forum is for, and I myself on have quite often posted along like lines. I've felt very much overwhelmed myself at times in the past, particularly in June of last year when I was very much at my lowest ebb. And, I sometimes still feel the same way. So, I do know how bleak and scary that feeling can be be.
However, I can tell you, based on my own experience, that things CAN get better. Although, not being in any way medically qualified, and certainly not having " all the answers ", I can only offer a few general thoughts.
Is there someone that you can talk to like a doctor or counsellor? I spoke to a very helpful consultant psychiatrist who said that " dealing with/managing " depression was about making small, gradual changes to your life, laying a firm, gradual foundation for building a different, better future for yourself. Perhaps talking to a doctor or counsellor etc, might help you to get another, an " external " viewpoint on your life and your situation that might help you to " break things down " into smaller steps, smaller steps that you can gradually take to make yourself feel less " overwhelmed ".
Don't feel that you're burdening your mother or your friends with your feelings. They probably just feel bad that they can't think of a way to ease your feelings and thoughts. Perhaps if you were to seek advise from someone like a doctor or counsellor, etc. They could help you think of concrete ways and strategies for you to feel less overwhelmed, and that your mother and friends could then help you with. I have to admit that there have been times when I've felt so overwhelmed, I've just ended up " dumping " my own feelings of depression and despair on other people, which I do regret. But, if I explain how I feel to them calmly, and then explain a concrete way that they could help me, then people are generally very willing to help.
Good luck, and hope that your tomorrows do get a little better!
I found it very helpful to have doctors, careworkers, etc who could

Thank you so much for your reply :)
I'm seeing a pyschatrist and taking medication for OCD but i dont think I'm working as hard as I could be on it because my depression gives me no motivation. So it feels a bit like a bad cycle for me.
I might change psychatrist though because I don't feel like the current one is helping me much. The sessions are only 15 minutes, I don't really get to talk and the medication doesnt do anything besides make me gain weight which makes me feel more depressed.

I do feel much better today though thank goodness. Just some days are really bad, and last night was one of them so thank you for replying once again :)

You're welcome (((( msmely ))))! :)
I'm glad that you're feeling better than you were. I know that some days can be really bad. I find that one of the worst things about the times when I feel " overwhelmed " myself, is that the feeling of being " overwhelmed " can be so intense that it's hard for me to hold on to the idea that the feeling of being " overwhelmed " CAN pass, and that there CAN be a time to come where I WON'T feel overwhelmed. Which, I suppose, is a rather long-winded way of saying that it's important to keep the hope of better days, perhaps, particularly, when things feel at their worst.
Good luck and please do take care of yourself! :)

I too go up and down in emotions like a roller coaster. Man, what a ride it is. I hope you find some semblance of stability in and around you.
