Is there a way to get free psychiatric counseling?

Hi all,
I suffer from depression but I am not seeing a psychiatrist because I do not have the financial means to pay for it. I have not worked in a few years due to my depression (and anxiety). Do you know of some type of clinic or government program that will enable me to receive psychiatric help?

you can usually get a referral by going to your local gp You can only have a few weeks free though
