I am new

Postby cindylou » Fri May 22, 2009 4:36 pm

Hello, I just joined this group because I have delt with depression most of my life and had long periods of success. However, due to some situations never addressed from my past and present occuring situations once again I find myself hanging dangerously close to the dark hole of depression.

Sometimes that deep hole, can seem to be pretty deep, can't it.

You don't give any indication in your post as to how old you are. Not that it makes any real difference. Depression doesn't have any respect for age, race, gender, education money. It is the great equalizer. The edge of the cliff is still the edge of a cliff, wheter are 15 or 51.

From following some of the other threads I can see that there is quite a range of ages in the people that post here.

One thing that we all have in common is that we are good listeners.
I am sure that I am not the only person that checks on things, usually a cope of times, each day.
I have a friend who's mother died. She had been ill for a long time but still it was difficult when the end came.
The next time I saw her, I brought long 4 marshallows. Told them to attach them to the bottom of her shoes, so her walk would be a little more cushioned.

Hi cindylou-

Tell us what's got you near the edge so we can pull you back. The people on this forum are incredible nice. I'm pretty new and I feel really cared for by them.

Also, very important - how did you achieve success in the past?

A little more background - Maybe age, location, husband, kid, whatever?
Don't feel pressured, you don't have to divulge anything you don't want to.

Welcome!

Monty-

What?!?!? What's this about the marshmallows? How exactly does that work, having marshmallows on your shoes?

My typing has gotten better too. Sort of. At least I can backspace and make corrections faster than I used to. And I have a dictionary on at all times in the background, so I don't make an idiot of myself spelllling something wrong.

cindylou,

Looking back I see that you only seem to have posted once. We are all hoping that things are going ok for you.

If you need to talk, there are many of us who are here to listen.

a5, I don't often fully explain the thought process that is going on in my head. Don't worry (I should be the one that is worrying) often I go off on a tangent of my own. Like I said, not explaining myself very well. Kind of standing out in left field, all by yourself.

The marshmallows on the shoes thing, is meant as a metaphor. It is like if you are going through a really tough time, it often seems like things are going terribly wrong. By having marshmallows on the bottom of your shoes, it makes the road a little easier to trave; (somewhat cushioned).

The really odd thing is, that it makes perfect sense to me, but I seem to be the only one. Glad you asked me to clarify it.

Look forward to talking to you later.

Yeah but you actually have the four marshmallows, right? Then you just eat them and pretend everything is better? It's just such a cute idea I want to get it right. Check your private message box.

Someone told me that one a long time ago.
I might have lost some of it in the translation.

I checked my private box and have sent a message off to you just previous to writing this note.
I tried to send a message to your email address, and of course with my computer savy skills, it was returned with a delivery failure notice.

Just press the reply on my message and then I will be able to get your address right.

Moniy - If I hit reply, my address will be all over the planet in 2 seconds. I'll try the personal box again. Plus, right now on my email, it says they're having technical problems.

Good thinking re the reply button.

I am not usually a member of a group, so when I press the reply button it just goes back to the person who wrote me.

Almost a big ooooops, sorry I tried to lead you astray.

No problem. I am naturally paranoid, so I caught it. Maybe the MODERATORS can figure out what we're doing wrong. Try sending me a personal message and see if I can even find it.

You keep 'hanging on'. May not be able to make this thing called depression disappear but we can sure give it a run for its money. Together with others that DO understand how you feel, what you are dealing and going through helps immensely.
