I Feel So Alone

Postby formerblond48 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 11:32 pm

I'm new here and I've suffered from depression for many, many years. Right now I feel like I'm so alone and don't have anyone to talk to. People without depression can only take so much talk about it, but they don't get it and don't really like to talk about it. I'm on meds, but they aren't being as effective so I need to see my doctor. I'm just really, really depressed right now. My ex-husband is treating me like I'm a worthless piece of junk and my kids have to see how he's treating me and that depresses me even more. None of my friends want to talk about this any more, and I don't blame them. But I feel like I'm going to explode if I can't get any of this out.

Hi Formerblond48, I'm new here too. This is my first post. I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone, and I understand what you said about feeling like you're going to explode if you can't get it out. If it makes you feel any better, just reading that someone else out there felt the same way made ME feel a little bit better. Thank you for that. I hope you start feeling better soon.

ErinC - I'm glad to know that I made you feel better. :D I'm doing better today and didn't explode - thank goodness!

I hope your weekend has been good. Mine got better after I visited Barnes & Noble...bookstores are like a sedative for me, so as soon as I walked in I felt a lot better. At least its a sedative that you don't have to get at a pharmacy!

Most agreed about book stores, formerblond! I love even just the smell of a book. The only thing about a book store that irks me is that I don't have enough money to buy everything I want!

Do you keep books at home? I have pretty extensive library at my house, and they honestly do provide me with a lot of comfort. Looking at them, touching them, reading them. Glad to hear there is someone else out there who gets true comfort from books!

Amy - I can sympathize. I never have enough money to buy everything I want either! However, its still nice just to be able to take your time and walk around looking at everything.

Yes, looking is great... just torturous sometimes!!! I've maxed out many a credit card in my youth by buying books. Going to the library was never enough for me... I always needed to own the books I loved. Still do, actually!!!

Set your goals on one book at a time, hard to do, but do-able. Works for me :)

Hi, Books can be a great comfort, old friends and all that. Lately I have been having touble with some of my readings. They seem to trigger memories that are troubling so I am not reading as much. Funny how that can happen to leave off the things that you enjoy because of the need to reduce some of the negatives. I am going through my books and getting rid of a lot just to make room for new ones I guess. Any one else having this issue:

I'll tell you justme... my bookshelves are stacked with no room for anything else! It's frustrating because I love to own books myself.

Have you looked into very light reading? Perhaps if you write some of your triggers down on here, you we can all recommend books that do not contain them... just a thought.

Hi Amy
Thank you for your response. I have tried light reading and it isn't helping much. Just the triggers I guess. I am reading how to magazines right now. There are pictures to look at and that is helpful. Watch TV too, mainly comedies. Do not like the heavy stuff there is enough of heavies around. What I am trying to do is to get organized to complete a bunch of stuff around the house. Get tired though and take plenty of rest stops. I had someone come in and do a bit of work for me hoping that that would give me some incentive. Bought some paint to re paint the ceiling so that it would look cleaner. Thinking about painting the cupboards so that they would look a little more up to date.

hey justme! Sounds like you have plenty of things to do to keep you busy, huh? All of those projects sound great... keep on them and you will busy your anxiety away! :-)

Magazines are great, light reading. I read plenty every month, if only to escape from the world for a little while. Which magazines do you favor? I like Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Glamour, and word find or crossword puzzles. Have you tried those? The word find is very very light... they keep my mind busy, anyway.

I am an absolute TV junkie, justme! I also like comedies, but especially movies. What specific comedies do you like?

Hi Amy
I like to watch the Brits on TV, their humour isn't putting down as some of the US shows are. At least that is how it is with the shows that I watch. Magazines are gardening, art, psychology, and anything in the doctors office. I found a book on crosswords that I might try.
I am trying to choose colours to paint the kitchen and am having a hard time. Colours scare more people that you would imagine. The fridge is standing in the middle of the kitchen and I have one wall done and now I am waiting to decide if I like it or not. I am trying to get away from basic white and well it is a challenge. Tomorrow I am having someone come and give me some suggestions. Sure is hard when you are a little on the colour unaware side.
How are you on doing colours? Which TV shows do you like?
I went to see Julie and Julia and really enjoyed it. You?

Joanne,

Have been hearing some good things about Julie and Julia.
Glad to read that it has you, stamp of approval.

Looking forward to going to see it, I am a real Meryl Streep fan (have the DVD of Mama Mia)
