Hello,
I am 18 years old living in the UK with high functioning autism and depression. Here is a little bit about myself. I have self-harmed but I have been clean for a couple of weeks. Before I started feeling low I had many interests including singing, horses, art, walking in nature and online gaming. Also I used to play netball but I haven't in a while now.
I became depressed when my dad left his job and then both my parents started drinking. I was also bullied throughout school and I got a death threat from my next door neighbour when I was coming home on the bus.
I have tried many things including medication (I was on an SSRI called Fluoxetine) as well as counseling and other message boards. I am beginning to lose hope that I will ever be happy like I always used to be.

Hi Katie;
Welcome to the site. I find it interesting to see you write that you that autism. I think it shows quite a bit of self awareness. I usually see family or friends trying to help someone with autism. The fact that your here trying to help yourself, I believe, is a victory in itself. And we have to celebrate each victory. So let me pat you on the back.
Thinks must be difficult since your dad left his job and there must be less opportunity to do things you used to that brought you joy. And obviously, your parents are so involved in their own struggles (thus the drinking) that they probably have less time for you. That has to be very difficult because your right at the age when your making important decisions about the rest of your life. So I can see this must be a lonely time for you.
I'm sorry things are this way at this point in your life. But I'm very glad your doing the things are. You really sound like your making good choices. And writing is a potent tool. You probably won't be riding horses much but I think it's important to force yourself to practice doing things that used to bring you joy, even if they don't at the moment.
