think i have anxiety attacks

Postby bg38 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 2:59 am

I managed to find a new job after being unemployed for months. I've done this type of work for 10 years at a previous job so I knew I could handle it just fine.

But after a couple weeks of working there, I started getting chest pains and tightness in the chest just thinking of going to work there every day. I've had this happen before with another job I ended up quitting to get the pain to stop.
The pain gets so bad on me I can't even move my arm sometimes. It's really becoming a burden having to deal with this.

The more I think about going ,the worse the pain and I've actually had to go to the ER only to have them tel me my heart was in perfect condition. It isn 't that I don't want to work. I do. I have a wife, 2 kids and a house to support.

This happens more and more it seems lately and makes it hard to earn my living. I don't even want to leave my house any more.

I was scheduled for an appointment with a therapist but had to go to work before I went , so I could keep my house.

I'm sorry you have to go through this! Can you see even your family doctor after hours so you might get started on some meds? My husband has similar symptoms and they went away quite quickly with meds. I know everyone is different though.

I am sending positive thoughts your way!

Hello bg38

Good for you to be able to express yourself so clearly. I think that you are feeling the fear of failure about being able to support your family. I think you have to fall back on your first words: _--- "I have done this job for 10 years (for other bosses) and I knew that I could handle it just fine."

How about trying to put forward a positive attitude about your ability to function in an excellent manner at your job. Why not give it a try, I think you will find that some of, or perhaps all of the symptoms of pain in your chest might just subside within a few weeks or maybe even a few days.

I am 74 years old and spent 32 years driving, or owning, a taxi in the city of Toronto. The first car that I was given had no power steering and after a couple of weeks I started to get pains in my chest. Here I was only 26 years old and I thought --- holy cow, I'm starting to have heart trouble already.

Anyway, the car was in such bad shape, that I finally refused to drive it anymore and they gave me a different car. This second car had power steering and my chest pains went away. I hope this story, which might seem to be totally unrelated to your own, will provide you with the motivation to be more relaxed at your job. In the process, I hope you too will find a new sense of confidence in the state of your health as I did in my above personal story.
