unemployed so long, losing hope

Postby clayfeet » Mon Apr 18, 2011 9:56 pm

I've been in and out of depressions since I was a child.

Found out late in life that I also have ADD. No wonder I couldn't keep a job.

I've been unemployed for over 4 years now, and it's getting very bleak not feeling that there is any hope for my future.

I studied art; It's my passion, and thought I'd get work teaching in university. Nope! Teaching has been a snakepit of deceits. I should have majored in MONEY --- finance, banking, health care. Those are the only jobs now, and I'm over 50.

Anyway, some days are better than others. But today is pretty dark.

Am on new meds.

The more I think about all the effort time and expense I've gone through, I could kick myself. And I do.

Doesn't help to be alone either.

Don't know what I will do for money either. So disillusioned with life these days.

Welcome clayfeet,

Glad you found this site, good people here and in the chat room that is connected with it. Have you tried the chat room? Lots of wonderful people there that are going through rough times and depression. Talking with others that deal with the same issues can be a great help.

Knowing someone does understand and gives support is amazing. We all just become close do what we can to be there for each other.

Hi Clayfeet, I'm new today and I saw your post about being over 50 and unemployed. I'm 62 and I lost my job 3 months ago. I was working at a store that closed. I suffer from lifelong depression, working got me out of the house and in touch with real people. Now I feel lonely. Finding a new job at my age as been very hard because so many young people are looking too. I'm not talented like you. Have you thought about looking into window design or manquein dressing? Stores look for art talented people for those jobs because of color knowledge and creativity. Hope I was of some help.

Hi Tyciol,
What did you do for a living? There's just not much out there no matter what you do? How do you spend your days? I'm ashamed to say I do very little which only makes my depression worse. I just don't have the strength to break the cycle.
