Feeling :( and Discouraged

Postby Jake61186 » Thu Sep 02, 2010 9:01 pm

Today was an interesting day at work. I say interesting only because things could have been a bit better. I am writing today after my day at work did not seem to go my way. As many of you know from the chat, I recently started work as a photographer for a local photography studio about 45 minutes from my house and I take pictures of students and teachers throughout my area. Yesterday, "K" (my supervisor) told all of us junior photographers (that is, those of us who are being trained including myself) that if we do not know how to 1. set up the camera 2. understand everything about the software we use and 3. how to set up the mini studio we would most likely be getting the boot by the end of the following week. Today, I was at a Catholic High School which was interesting because I am a Conservative Jew. Of the fifteen or so pictures that I did take, maybe two of them actually managed to look good. I kept getting feedback from the guy who training me, but it honestly only discouraged me. Unfortunately, this led to me not feeling confident about this upcoming week of being capable of nailing those three skills. It does not make sense to me that this type of job is expected to be learned in two weeks, especially when your only experience with digital photography has been taking pictures of friends, family, landscapes, and vacation type pictures. If anybody has comments of support or encouragement or just advice about the situation--I would gladly enjoy hearing it. In case you are wondering what I look like I have enclosed a link for a picture that was taken roughly a year ago.

I'm sorry jake, but link to other sites isn't allowed here. Including links to pics on facebook.

Now, as far as the photography goes.... try researching some other pictures that have previously been done thru that studio to get a better idea of just what type of style and flair the instructor is aiming for. Also, it takes about 15 pictures to find one good one. So don't be afraid to take a ton of pics and choose the best one to submit. The more options you have, the better the result will be. I hope it goes well for you hon.

Two weeks certainly isn't very long to learn any job. Especially when it is like you have a gun to your head because of having a (too short) deadline to face.

Afraid that I don't take too many pictures so can't give you any advice.

You do have my support though.

Hang in there.
