Questionable depression diagnosis

Postby Stinky » Wed Nov 26, 2025 2:58 pm

Hi all. I was recently committed to Ohio State University’s Harding mental hospital in Columbus Ohio. I was diagnosed with depression unspecified. I don’t think the symptoms matched the diagnosis very well. I asked them about them. Could you please tell me if this is common in depression? They seemed to think these symptoms very common with depression and they see it all the time.
[*] Could not concentrate
[*] extreme confusion
[*]Dizziness
[*]Nausea
[*] Feeling constantly like you have the flu
[*]Having very strong emotions
[*]Crying constantly
[*] No desire in food
[*] extreme anxiety
[*] cannot control body temperature
[*] Inability to sleep
[*] Electric zaps in head temple
[*] racing thoughts
[*] Mental fog
[*] complete loss of strength and appetite
[*] Constant nausea and vomiting
[*] Excess energy

Also depression behaves:
[*] Depression can come very fast. You have one emotion and then as quick as a light switch it’s something else. Symptoms can appear immediately within a few minutes and no longer exist after a minute.
[*]Symptoms can go away permanently over night.

There are other things I can’t remember as I have strong forgetfulness because of the depression.

He also mentioned that the dsm is just suggestions and anything can be added or removed to form a diagnosis when I asked why there were symptoms wildly inconsistent with the others symptoms. They walked away.

I asked if there was anything the mental hospital could do to help with these symptoms (like meds or something). He said that wasn’t a part of a mental hospital. Harding is just for emergencies and send you on your way. They would not consider changing my meds. If I need a script or help you need to go outpatient.

These symptoms don’t seem to match what I usually hear about depression.; but I have no idea how to verify. Could someone please help me understand these depression symptoms? Thank you.
