Drifting out to sea,
you might as well let go of me
Getting too hard to stay a float,
too weak to swim to the boat
The line has grown to thin,
to be able to pull me in
So helplessly you've watched me drift out to sea,
unwilling to let go of me
Hoping soon an answer could be found,
to bring me back safe and sound
And from where I am I can see your face so clear,
so evident is your fear
And its so obvious that you think,
that if you let go I'll just sink
So you continue to hold on trying to save my life,
taking on my pain adding to your strife
And I see you ache because of me,
maybe I should be the one to break free
I know you mean well,
but I can't keep putting you through this hell
So with the last of my strength,
I cut the ropes length
Knowing you, you'll probably try one last time,
but I dont think I'll grab the line
Because I can't keep doing this anymore,
I know I'll never again see the shore
Now free of the last thing holding me,
I start drifting out to sea

Being on your own little island doesn't have to be so bad! You do what you can at your pace. There may very well come a time again, where you may not want to be the island or will come off on your own terms.

Maybe you can describe it to your friend like that? as refuge in your attempt at piecing your life back together? & if you, yourself, don't view it that way yet, then it's a thought.

Just that--a thought. The more you leave your way open, the better chances for a path to become clear to you?
