I'm a pretty spiritual guy. My spirituality has evolved over my life. And while I believe in the core teachings of Jesus, I've been lensing those teachings through Buddhist philosophy.
So, when it comes to life, I want it to flourish. Animals included.
But, i made a decision today that I had to weigh against issues of safety: we have a nice chunky rat living in our wood pile. And I might have been inclined to allow him to live there, as long as we got along and he didn't take exception to me gather wood for the fireplace.
But, we live in a neighborhood and a young family is next door. So, it was my decision to call-in an exterminator. I'm not happy making that choice. But, it is the right one.
And what does all that have to do with depression? Depression doesn't exist in a vacuum. Depression tends to color all my thinking. So, from my wholistic view of life, my rat-friend has everything to do with it.
Maybe I'll burn a bit of sage for him tonight...
