Things that make me happy

Postby daffodilly » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:22 am

i am sitting here crying, not able to stop. for whatever reason... i really don't know. So I thought I'd make a list of things that make me happy... or things that make me feel good. Or even things that make me smile. In general I could say my family, my church, etc. but for this particular list, people don't count, because for me they would always be at the top and there are too many to name =)

so, here's a few of my things....
funky pens
pretty clouds
a baby's laughter
my dog snoring
sweet nicknames
love notes from my babies
dandelions.. a child's favorite flower
the fresh smell in the woods after a rain
baby feet
hugs
a clean car
surprise letters in the mail
payday
the smell of clean laundry
satin sheets

I can't think of any more right now... but will surely add to my list again. It did help I think, to focus on those nice things...

At the top of my list.... is horses. Riding bareback on a horse across an open field and feeling the wind in your hair is amazing.
A beautiful rainbow the flies across the skies.
Clouds on a windy day shaped like animals.
Stars that fill the night sky with a light all their own.
A moon so full you can count the centuries in it's face.
A good book that you just wanna curl up under a blanket and read all day long.
A movie so scarey that it makes you jump into your lovers arms and scream in his ear.
The sound of a baby's first cry after being born.
The smell of fresh cut grass after a rainey day.
Going outside and playing in the rain like a 2 year old child. Don't miss any puddles!
Waking up and seeing my grandson curled up with the kitten in his crib and both snoring!
The smiles on people's faces after a huge meal and knowing I put that smile there.
The sound of my daughter's voice when she calls me mommie.
The fact that my boyfriend calls me ever single night so my day can end on a good note no matter how it started.
The fact that I'm 48, overweight, scarred up, and still have a boyfriend!
Coming into the chat room and knowing that what i say, what i do, it matters.
Sitting at my desk in a quiet house and writing something that I know will make at least one person feel good about themselves.
Crafts. I love crafts. Taking a bunch of "nothing" and making a "something" out of it.
Talking to my best friend (warmie) on the phone. I can feel my own strength grow with each word she speaks. Just knowing someone that special is astounding.
Hugs that warm you to your toes. Lots and lots of hugs. :)

There's more. But I think I've said enough. :)

Okay, just off the top of my head, sorry if this rambles a bit...

Checking out Warmsoul's corner and the DU site. ( As I'm obviously doing now! :) )
Getting a new copy of Astro City. ( One of my REALLY favourite comics! 8) )
Visiting an old and trusted friend, when I can just be myself, relax, and know that I'm exactly where I belong, exactly where I want to be.
Finding a book about some obscure corner of history that I've heard about in passing, and will now be able to learn more about. ( I'm a GEEK!!!! It's what I do!!!! :D )
Watching the sun rise through my office windows, and realising that my whole life and ALL my possibilities are still intact and available to me.
Re-watching Star Trek, ( Particularly the original series that I grew up with and sometimes watched with my Father. )
Watching, ( And, rewatching! ), Doctor Who. The stories I grew up with, and the new stories that I'm watching and experiencing for the first time, particularly when I'm doing this with like-minded friends!
Really getting absorbed in a story, on TV, or audio, or reading. And then, remembering that my life itself is a story, a story that I can shape, at least to a great extent, according to my own principles, hopes and dreams.
Cheese-on-toast, on thick, freshly cut bread, with a little brown sauce, pepper, and tea with lemon. :D
The songs and music of Suzanne Vega. 8) ( I've been lucky enough to see her live in concert three times. 8) 8) )
Having a bit of humourous banter with my workmates, and being reassured how much humanity is in them :D , even if it often feels lacking in my employer as an organisation... :(
Did I mention cheese on toast...?!

I love this :D i can't believe all the wonderful things that have been thought of! Y'all have just made me smile really, really big. :D And helped me think of a few more as well :D

the smell of fresh baked bread

running over an ant bed with the riding lawnmower

hearing a stranger tell their child, "I love you"... maybe the world has hope after all

setting and reaching a goal

snuggling with my husband

3 day beard (not mine, his :D )

snuggling with my 8 yo, even though he's "big enough to go to bed by himself, but I'll snuggle if you really need it..." I ALWAYS need it. lol

sitting on the porch and listening to the sounds of the early evening critters in the woods.. the frogs, crickets, owls, and whatever else.

I will think of more... this is helping me keep my mind focused on the good things in my life. Thanks to everyone for responding =) the DU family is simply amazing, isn't it? So glad I'm a part of it.

befriending cats i see in the street
writing poetry
picnics
icecream
having a good old catch-up with an old friend
coming home on a cold rainy day and getting straight into my pj's

Oh this is so good for me to focus on!

Making my friends laugh
Getting kisses from my cat
The life size statue of a Panther I bought off a trade website
Warm Ciabatta bread
Seeing photos of my old German Au Pair boys (now aged 5 and 7)
Genuine, interesting conversation with a stranger across the bar
Seafood!
The feeling around your hip when a child you pick up clings on with his legs
Perfectly painted fingernails in an obscene colour
My oldest brother confiding his feelings and secrets to me
A satisfying match of tennis
A messy, yet mentally organised room
Sitting down in the shower
Rain on an unclad roof on a beach house by a coastal New Zealand shore
The Waitakeres (except not right now, because someone put a dismembered body somewhere.....)
Lamebook.com
Having a Naxos account with access to hundreds of thousands of inspirational pieces of music from inspirational composers.

Whew!

the wide innocent eyes of childhood
the brand new baby smell

sitting on the porch in a rain storm

The welcoming 'purr' on my cat, early in the morning

The smell of fresh coffee

The sounds of the birds at sunrise

That special song that takes you back to a very special time in your life

A hug, for no reason

Being brought into a water fight with children, unexpected

An unexpected telephone call that makes you smile from ear to ear

Mother Nature at her best

Being a member of this caring family that we have become

Warmie

I'll name a few.........

The Moon Shining *looking all mystical*
Being Myself. happens only frequently.
Just Sitting in the darkness while no one is around
Believing That i can still be happy while it is bleak
Meeting someone of my caliber, friends or enemies don't really matter.
Having moments of peace, laughter, joyful.
