Lost and confused

Postby Crista5387 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 3:56 pm

So I have recently cut out a friend of mine from my life because I felt they were emotionally abusing me. I needed to get away to preserve my own sense of self, and to try and regain what little grip I have on life right now. This friend is still contacting me daily trying ot change my mind and even has friends asking me to reconsider because I hurt them so bad by walking away. I hurt myself by walking away aswell, but I feel its what I need to do in order to hold onto who I am. THey take away from my sense of self and I can't handle the emotional ups and downs they bring. Am I being as selfish as I feel? Or does my self preservation come first? I am honestly beating myself up here and don't know what to do  . Sometimes love isn't enough to keep friends together...

The right thing

i dont think you are selfish at all if anything i think what you are doing is an incredibly strong thing to do and very controlling of your own life i think you should be proud of yourself for having the strength to do this. Just make sure you dont cut off too many people as there is nothing worse then being or just feeling alone. The relationships you have with your friends are the ones in life that you can choose so keep them healthy for your own well being. I can tell you are finding it tuff leaving this person behind you but is its the best thing for you it must be the right thing!! Goodluck

This is your relationship. You set the boundaries of what is acceptable and what is not. If they don't respect those boundaries then you have to do what is right for you to be ok.

Hi Crista! Your self-preservation needs to come 1st.

Also, perhaps you can just tell them you are having a rough time, going through some stuff & just need some "you" time right now.

It may also be time to turn off the phone or ringer, if necessary.

I hope you are doing okay! Sorry, I missed your post! >.<
