Desperately Looking for the Positive

Postby Mich » Thu Oct 01, 2009 10:31 am

I am desperately looking for something positive in my day so far today. My kids argued all morning so that wasn't a positive start to the day and my husband and I didn't really connect before he left for work so I cannot use either of those. I would have to say that snuggling with my dog brought some comfort. I went back to bed for 1 hour after the kids went to school and I had my little dog there cozied up with me. She always knows that I need some love and comfort. I will try to lock onto that as something good for the day. My chest is heavy with depression and I have nothing in this day ahead to distract me. I wish I had the attention span to read. I still cannot see a light in this darkness and the pain is wearing me down.

Ohhhh ((((((((((((((((((((((Mich)))))))))))))))))))))) great big hugs to ya...

I understand about your attention span; I'm like that too..... Have you tried maybe some inspirational quotes for the day. They're usually not very long. I think some web sites will allow you to sign up for quotes of the day or something like that.

I don't know any off of the top of my head right this minute, though. Do you think something like that would help?

When I go through my day & it's rough, I try to say positive affirmations to myself throughout the day as much as I need it. Stuff like, " You/I can do it", "It's going to be alright", "It's okay", "Think... How can I solve this?" & so forth.

Is there something that you like to do? Maybe going outside for a moment, looking at the sky? do you like crossword puzzles, circle a word, or sudoku? You don't have to do every thing all at once, just a little bit at a time. That might help your attention span. TV shows? Music you like? Drawing/doodling/painting?

It's a thought. I do hope you feel better soon!

I can see several positives just in what you've written. And you already see one, snuggles w/ your dog. Another is that your dog/friend is so loving and intuitive of you. Your kids may have been arguing, but you have kids. Some don't/can't have kids, I'm one of them. You don't feel you connected w/ your husband, maybe you didn't, or maybe you just couldn't see it or feel it, maybe he did. But you still have a husband who's hanging in there. You have a family, you aren't living alone.

I know depression keeps you looking on the down side of things, but for every downer you think there is a flip side. It can be hard to see it though, but its always there with some effort. I know it sucks that everything is so hard, it takes so much effort to do, think anything. Boy do I know. But the more you can see the positives the closer you are to the ray of light that shines into the dungeon that will eventually lead you out.
