Spoken Word - The Storm In My Heart

Some days, my heart feels like a sealed chamber filled with a tempest—an unwelcome tempest, one I cannot articulate, a tempest that roars louder than the surrounding world.

And that’s the aspect no one really discusses: not the trembling hands, not the rapid breaths, not the racing thoughts—but the solitude, the quiet pain of thinking you’re the only one carrying a storm within.

Anxiety convinces you that everyone else has it figured out, that everyone else knows how to breathe, how to fit in, how to enter a room without planning every escape route.

It tells you that you’re odd, you’re delicate, you’re isolated.

But pay attention—that’s the falsehood. That’s the reverberation of a voice that has no right to define you.

Because here you are—still standing amidst the storm, gentle yet unbroken, trembling but unshaken.

You, my friend, are evidence that strength doesn’t have to be loud. Strength is the individual who rises when their mind says "don’t." Strength is the heart that continues to beat even when it fears its own rhythm. Strength is the spirit that softly declares "I’m trying" and truly means it.

And you are not alone. Not by a long shot. The world is filled with individuals whose storms remain hidden, whose struggles don’t shine brightly, whose bravery is subtle yet unwavering.

You are one of them.

So when anxiety attempts to confine your world to a small space—remember: your heart was not made to be small. Your spirit was not created to fold. Your narrative is not destined to conclude in darkness.

You carry a storm in your heart, yes—but you also carry lightning, and that signifies you are meant to illuminate the sky.

One breath at a time, one step at a time, one moment at a time—you rise. You rise. You rise.

And the storm? It can shake, it can roar, it can rumble—but it cannot halt you.

Not today. Not ever.
