Certainly, the world of the 1900s had more than its fair share of discrimination. The list is longer than most people would have the patience to read.
But today, we are still fighting some real discrimination that is hurting people on a regular basis.
1. Women:single mothers, women on the streets, old women, unemployed women, women experiencing lower salaries for the same work, uneducated women, abused, second class citizens in many countries and some religions, etc.
2. The Mentally ill
3. People who have paid for their crimes yet continue to be penalized by making it difficult for them to get a job, education, or change their lives, forcing them back into prison. Where is the forgiveness or justice in this?
4. The unemployed, with a work history gap due to illness, or a crisis in the family.
Etc. Species are not treated any better. A pastor said that all creatures were welcomed to the communion table. I am not a creature. I am a person. The person standing next to me is not a creature, but a person. My cat is not a 'creature' but a person who needs affection as much as food or water and has emotions just like I do.
It would be fantastic, FANTASTIC, if we could get rid of 90 of the discrimination that goes on not only toward each other, but within ourselves. I'd like to see it go the way of slavery... without the war ... just in the past where it can stay there forever... never to be repeated.
