PLEASE HELP SUPPORT ME

Postby Annie101 » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:05 pm

Unfortunately, when my depression started and I sought help, I was told it usually lasts no more than 2 yrs...Now, 11 yrs later, it is the hardest obstacle I've ever had to face. Needless to say, it didn't only last for 2 yrs and from what I gather, I will always have to somehow deal with it.
PLEASE HELP SUPPORT ME :( and it is my hope that I can offer support to you as well.
I wouldn't wish this dibilitating disease on my worst enemy. I feel that depression has without a doubt, robbed me of my life.

My frist day and responses to my cries for help...

Postby Annie101 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 10:13 am

I want to thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my first cry for help and of which I'm sure I will probably have many more to send.
Even before I came into the forum this morning, just seeing that I had a response brought so many tears to my eyes knowing that someone out there cares.
Because I've only been on here for a couple of days now, I'm not sure if I am replying the right way. I really hope I am because you need to know how much your help means to me.
Thanks so much!!! Sending the warmest of wishes & a huge hug your way!!! :)

YW, what the forums is about, giving support, caring in any way we can. Your reply was perfect. Your thoughts, always the right way.

Have you tried our DU chat room? It is a fantastic place, lots of people to talk with. You actually chit chat with one another, such a nice thing to have. Like a talk across the kitchen table while sharing coffee. You become family there as well as here.

Keep posting and know we are here for you. Good to see you back today. :)

Hey Annie,

I know how you feel. I've been dealing with depression for 7 years now and it's awful. I know I've missed plenty of opportunities because I've been so depressed. I'll definitely be here to support you :)

Feel better.

I think a lot of it depends on the cause, the person and the treatment. For me, i have been depressed as far back as i can remember. Which is a long time because i'm about to turn 50.

I'm curious how your doctor came up with depression only lasting up to two years?
It's been 17 years for me. I don't try to "battle" depression anymore, but also I stopped identifying with it too much. I try to find ways to live around it. I try to be good to myself, but occasionally force myself to do things, like go out for a walk when I feel like hiding inside again, etc.
It doesn't always work (obviously lol) but we can't just give up, can we - that's why we're all here. ;)

I think different people have different takes on chronic depression. My understanding is that for a diagnosis of dysthymia it means having depression of a certain threshold for AT LEAST 2 years. But then the medical model is full of flaws in my view. What counts is how you feel, and the support that you get. How're you doing these days?

There are as many different causes of depression as there are people who suffer from it. We group things into these neat little packages with names and try to come up with some semblance of a standardized set of information to give to the patient to make it easier on them. Problem is, most things don't fit into a nice neat little package.

Healing is time based. There is no quick fix. There are no miracle cures. No one thing will work for everyone. It is based on cause, treament and yes, the patient themselves.

The way I look at it is this.... it took me 50 years to get to this point in my life right now. It will take more than 2 years to find my way back again.

:D Hey, Keep strong. 11 years is a long time to deal with depression. Do you feel as though it is always there even when you should be happy? If you do it can be something to do with nutrients and the food your eating and how it affects your brain..
