Storms and Moods

Postby CitM » Tue Mar 05, 2013 7:45 pm

In the Midwest we are blessed that very few things happen in terms of disasters. Floods are from rains and rivers and usually involve basements, but rarely involve tidal waves. Occasionally the earth moves, but most often from a rumbling truck than an earthquake or landslide. Snow storms are more moderate even with global climate change than when I was a girl. And only severe summer storms have the ability to do any real damage or threaten lives.

Snow storms I like the best. Snow falls gently, blanketing everything, acting as insulation and sound proofing. It's a winter wonderland when it snows. Snow brings surprised holidays in the form of snow days and business closings, and children play and with luck there is sledding and skiing and shoveling. A great excuse for a cup of rich hot chocolate.

Snow makes the days and nights brighter and cleans the air, and leaves a fresh scent. Some of my favorite memories are with snow, and my mood lifts when I behold the snow globe world it brings.

How does weather effect your mood?

Delightful post, Cit M!

I LOVE the concept of storms and witnessing natures power and beauty. Lightning, snow... I do love it.

But I must admit to anxiety over things like the possibility of trees coming down on the house.

We have some grandfather hickories in our yard... and if they came down in a storm (shudder to think).

We regularly keep tabs on all the trees' health, though.

The gentleness of snow is so compelling. Maybe I should say, "snow flurries."

Lightning is a totally different experience, of course. I find lightning's energy and power invigorating... nearly on a spiritual level.

Best
