Desperate for advice?

Postby cjmca18 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 7:29 pm

Hi everyone, I am totally new to these things as you can probably tell.

I need advice, and a lot of it for that matter. I am horrendously depressed, however, I do get on with life as I have no choice due to my parents not exactly accepting that I suffer with it (even though I see a psych and am on meds etc :? )

Basically the advice I need is this, I am looking for a part time jobs at the minute as I'm only 18, but I'm really not sure if I can cope with work. Anyone got any advice, I would appreciate anything.

Thank you so much for your patience and for reading this if you did.

Hi. I'm 38 and ive been working with depression for many years. I've walked out of many jobs as a result as well. If you don't feel you can work you most probably haven't found what you want to do in life yet. It's always assumed that by the time you finish school you should have direction and know what you want to do. I think thats a load of crap. Its all trial and error, some if us get lucky, some of us don't. I do know having depression can make being in the work force very difficult. It's a pity your parents don't seem to be on board with you. I hope you can make the right decision for you. One word of advice is don't take a job that is overly stressful. Depression can make your coping thresh hold plummit. Good luck with everything :)

I agree with mello, you don't just "automatically" know what you want to do for a career. Some people have a pretty good idea. My daughter wants to become a CSI, which is great for her. I on the other hand am 40 years old and STILL don't know what sort of career I want, so don't despair. Sooner or later you will figure out what sort of career works for you. In the meantime, there is no harm in trying out different jobs. You may find something you like as a result. :)
