A brisk 30-minute walk or jog three times a week may be just as effective in relieving major depression as are standard antidepressant drugs, researchers have found.

It's the act of getting outside and doing something more than anything else.

lisaniel, not always true. If this is what you feel, then good. But it isn't true for many, keep in mind that many have other issues with the depression.

I agree that exercise is an effective weapon against depression. However, the statement that depression can be formulated in a sedentary I think it's pretty stupid. Just look at all the athletes who suffer from depression. They are certainly not the exercise.

I go to the gym, do weights and the occassional class. I feel a bit better when I go, but actually getting there can be a major task when feeling low

Exercise

Postby mentalmike » Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:59 pm

I exercise most days doing 1 or 2 of: walking(having a dog helps motivate me), bicycling outdoors or indoors, tennis. The exercise does give me some depression relief for a while.

Want to, but other health issues prevent it. Do what I can.
