I've had depression since 2008 when I lost my job. I am feeling more like myself than I have in quite some time. I was always an excellent cook and bake - cooking is my passion. Yet I have verrry little interest in cooking. I used to be addicted to the Food Network, yet now find myself changing channels when I see the Food Network, or any other T.V. show where someone is cooking. Does anyone else out there with depression struggle with the same issue? If so, how did you overcome it? My family tells me to just force myself to cook, however, I find that even difficult. I used to love going to the grocery store, now I absolutely hate it.
It makes me sad and upset when friends ask me if I've made one of their favorite cakes or dishes lately...I feel like a loser.

awwww dmozulay youre not a loser!!
when im going thru worse downers of depression i lost complete total interest in the things i love too. like i love to play guitar and sing but there have been times i havnt played for months, when i would normally do so every day. with me, it just kinda came back on its own. i just thought one day, hey, i feel like playing.
dont feel pressurised by yourself or the people around you to do it again until you are ready. i mean forcing yourself to try and cook might be good! but, then again, you dont want to take the joy out of it and start to associate it with something bad.
if i were you id either just wait it out, as you say youve been feeling better recently, theres every chance it will come back on its own. or, maybe you could just start small.... try watching the tv cooking programmes again.
or maybe you could think about some recipes, and create some. think about the ingredients and the things you would do. but dont actually do it, yet.
just build it up bit by bit maybe??
but certainly dont feel like a loser! its hard losing interest in thethings we love, especially when our friends associate those things with us. but youre not a loser or a failure or any of those negative thoughts... just think of it as taking a vacation from it... home is where the heart is, and if cooking is in your heart then youll return home to it soon!
