Managing My Allergy

Postby crystalgaze » Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:46 am

Since I appear to be allergic to white flour/grain type/starchy type products, I have been at a loss as to what to eat.

The minute I slip up, the allergy flares up with a vengeance. I am just a little tired. I'm sure it's just momentary....

Thanks for the suggestion Obayan! :)

I was carrying out an experiment recently.... For the most part, I have been eating only whole wheat products & have avoided white flour. What I've found was that my allergic reaction was delayed at best. I don't have that mad, disruptive itch in the middle of the night & the insomnia. (Thank goodness for that.) The itch is a more subdued one....

Right now, I've come to a point where I think I will stop eating grain products altoghether. The relapses are pretty bad, & overall, it's too much of a risk + headache to me. (There's more bad than good coming out of eating grain products.) I will stick with fruit & vegetables.... (& even avoid the starchy vegetables as much as possible)

I am now more seriously considering going to the doctor to see if I can do an allergen test. (Perhaps, I might get to the bottom of what's really wrong.) I don't know the official name of the test, but from what I understand, it's a blood test where a whole bunch of different allergens are introduced to see how much of a reaction there is. (My godmother did one, & it was quite informative.)

Recently, I read this article about bacteria surviving in outer space.... I was amazed, but that also made me think about the human body and wondered how it actually can keep the numbers in check....

Probiotics may help me out with the allergy & I MIGHT just be able to eat a bowl of my favorite cereal every now & then.... I am doing my little experiment now.... (Fight bad bacteria/imbalances with GOOD bacteria.... I guess it makes sense.... ~shrugs~)

Ever since the hurricane that passed near us, I had not eaten any yogurt.... (Yogurt was part of my regimen for managing the allergy.)

This is a good time for me to find an alternative to dairy that I can take, whatever may come.

Have some friends that have a big problem with allergies also.

They have gone the rice flour route that seems to have helped them.
One is on a gluten-free diet. Brings all her own food to potlucks.

Wow.... ! She brings all her own food.... I guess if that's what must be done, it just has to be done.

I keep being amazed at how a little water, just a few cups can make me feel better. Really, I don't understand it! (I'm not complaining.... OF COURSE NOT! I'm just amazed that it's that simple!)

My new diet/lifestyle is working for the most part--so long as I don't mess up.

I've even lost a few lbs, too. (170 lbs now.... Don't remember what I was before, but it should be no more than 180lbs.)
