Mich,
I have said before that Christmas is not my favorite season of the year. For as long as it lasts, it is almost 3 months.
I get down this time of year but I do try to just take it one day at a time, sometimes just one minute at a time. Like TackingIntoTheWind said. Looking at trying to solve the whole picture at one, I have found it easier to cope, if I just cut the whole problem into little pieces and have a lot of smaller goals, rather than one huge problem to deal with head on.
I definitely agree that you shouldn't go off your meds on your own. Check with your doctor before you do anything like that. Even though it may seem that your meds aren't doing anything, they still might be. Then if you try to start back on them it takes long for the pills to kick in.
I am quite proud of myself today because I got out of bed before 10 and had a shower. These days that is a great victory for me.
Hang in there. The purpose of the whole thing is to make sure that we all get through this crap, together.

Dearest Mich, i really understand how difficult every little thing can be, depression is so incapacitating and i hope you can be kind to yourself and feel proud of whatever you DO do and not the things you don't. I personally find receiving and making phone calls incredibly hard too. It took me two months to make a call to my dad recently even though we have a pretty good relationship. maybe see if you can identify a time of day or the week in which you feel slightly stronger and plan to make the call then. take a deep breath, go for it and maybe just say something like 'hello, i heard about your group from ...(wherever) and i just wanted to find out a little more about it.' i'm pretty certain they won't make you say anything about yourself, just keep the focus on finding out about the group and when and where they meet. and have a reward for yourself such as a cup of tea or a cuddle with your dog or something waiting for you for afterwards. do keep taking your meds as sudden withdrawal can be nasty and hopefully you and your psychiatrist can negotiate to find a more effective medication for you in the near future.
And Monty - well done for getting yourself up and ready, always a great triumph during severe depression. I hope your day has continued to go well
