I just lay in bed all day....

Postby geminio » Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:37 pm

I have been depressed since childhood. I was on the new antidepressant called "Prestiq", 50mg. Boy did my depression go away. I felt "normal", well what I would consider normal , in years.

My weight went up 10 pounds. I have been working out at the gym. I eat right.

I have cut the pill in half, and now the depression is back. I don't go to work. Is this all I have.....be fat and happy or depressed and thinner????

What does anyone think?

Boy, talk about depressd and thinner, or fat and happy. When I was on Effexor, it had no effect on my appetite, but now I am taking the new one, Cymbalta. I feel virtually no side effects, but it does keep me even.
But my problem is oxycodone. Generic for Oxycontin. Yes, the 'hillbilly heroin'. Having never done heroin, I wouldn't know. But it works for my fibromyalgia and arthritis, among several other pretty bad maladies.

The other problem is my age. Right in the middle of menopause. Hormones go down, temperature goes up, mood swings are interesting, but no longer spectacular, hormone replacement therapy is out - too dangerous.

So what happens with the pain killer is that I get a MAJOR sugar craving. I can just barely gag down vegetables, and am not interested in anything real. I take sugar cubes, mix some Equal sweetner with water, and pour it onto the sugar cube. Let it dry. It makes a very sweet sugar cube and I can get away with eating just one or two, instead of 8 or 12. I'm 53, and have put on 40 pounds since my mid fourties. Metabolism stopped, it seems. I can not stop the pain killer, and I can not go for walks anymore because of my knees and back. My husband has terminal cancer, and I need to be able to take care of him. I am never letting him go to the hospital, he, unless he lives for years and years, will die in my arms in our house. We have a hospital here in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that is called St. Vincent's. EVERYBODY in town calls it St. Victims. When my father died there, I was sure it was because they knew he would not be able to recover after his fall, so they just kept him knocked out with drugs until he died. It may have been better in the end, but they didn't have to be so blatent about it. An alarm would go off, and they would slowly get around to checking it out while we, the family members were panicing. I told my husband, if I ever need to go to the hospital, take me to Albuquerque.

It's late. I ramble. But yes, these psychotropics - brain meds, can do the wierdest things to your appetite. Try the new one, Cymbaltal. I tell everybody about it.

How old are you? Start being REALLY careful in your late 40s and then on.

Best of luck to you dear. Try Cymbalta. Any doctor worth a darn has a closet full of samples, so get a months worth. They take 3-4 weeks to work.

Keep us posted
