Support Skills

Postby CitM » Tue Mar 18, 2014 11:16 am

I find that one of the biggest obstacles for people with mental health challenges is support skills.

People are so busy trying to treat the symptoms, they are not asking about the basics, like brushing teeth, showering, eating patterns and dietary patterns, making other doctor appointments and keeping those like physicals, dental, eye doctor, etc. Keeping a calendar, spending habits, studying habits, laundry, chores, etc.

They are not asking about stress skills, nor bedtime routines or any routines in one's day. They are not assessing those routines very well if at all.

No other blood tests are taken, nor MRIs. In fact, very little is actually asked that can make a lot of difference in a person's well being and positively or negatively impact a person's life. In fact, some mental health patients are not mental health patients at all, but physically sick from lack of support skills or hidden physical diagnosis.

So make sure if you are either a care taker or having difficulty yourself to NOT forget about these other very important issues because they can make the difference between a full recovery, and a life of chronic and worsening illness.
