Making a Small Splash: Hello everyone

Postby WoollyAllen » Tue Nov 13, 2012 3:00 pm

Well, a newbie here. My subject heading says it all.

Like some new-comers, I'm not entirely sure where to begin and I thought this might be a good place. I hail from Singapore, am an Asian male, recently diagnosed with Clinical Depression and currently on Fluoxetine & Zoplicone. It's close to two months of medication now, and although I feel a little better, it really isn't so. I made the mistake of stopping my intake of Fluoxetine some two weeks ago, and it was not pleasant. Now I have to start all over again.

Can anyone advice me how I will eventually successfully wean myself off Fluoxetine?

Yes I can give you some advice. I was on Lexapro for about 5 years and recently stopped. Check on some supplements like St. John's Wort or SAMe. They work like anti-depressants. The SAMe is working better for me. Also try Valerian and GABA. The Valerian is good for sleep and the GABA works like Klonipin only much milder. Here is another thought. Check on some books on Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Depression. I have read that this is as effective as Anti-Depressants in treating depression. I would work on the cognitive therapy with something, like either meds or supplements.

Hi Wooly Allen, welcome to the fourm. I hope you decide to try the chat room as well. I am sorry that the meds you had tried didnt show significant improvement. If you want to wean off a medicine, you should always do so with your doctors knowledge so he or she can monitor you for signs of withdrawal and he or she can prescribe something else if needed to counterreact the side affects or just to help you to try and continue to feel better. Sometimes it can take a while to find the right meds.

Once again welcome to the forum and good luck in coming off your medicine.
