I have been to depression chat rooms before, but it's been a few years since I've visited one (this is my first post here).
I am 38, Pisces, single. I first realized I had depression when I was approximately 10 years old and saw a checklist on television and realized most of the checklist applied to me. I had depression off and on for many years after that, and still do, with varying degrees of severity. I've tried numerous meds, but not many med combos, which is the next step for me. Counselling has been spotty and generally ineffective, although I believe in it and want to try it again. I have difficulty holding jobs for even half a year in the past 10 years, so keeping regular insurance is a challenge. In my city, there is county funded health care, but that presents many challenges of it's own to deal with. But I am gathering what little reserves I have to yet again to find a job and do battle with the hideous public health care beast, ha.
In my mid twenties, I managed to get past the fear of seeking help and the feeling that I should "just snap out of it" or that I should be strong enough not to need meds. Now I'm at a place where I've just been running on empty for so long that...well, I don't really know what. I'm about to lose my house and almost everything in it due to financial issues. It sounds bleak, but overall I'm hangin' in there. I could say a lot more but think this post may be limited to 50,000 words or less
