Hello
Hi. My name is Terilyn. I am 22 years old. I have had problems with depression for many years now and I have a very rocky relationship with my family. I thought I had everything with my depression under control but lately things have spiraled down again with my family and I feel like I am just sinking and about to drown. Hoping that this forum can give me a good place to share my feelings and get advice.

I can't say I have a rocky relationship with my family. The truth is, I have no relationship with my family at all. I've always been a disappointment to my parents, and I'm not close to my sister. It's hard though, so I can appreciate familys don't always give us what we would so like. It's taken me a long time to realise that this isn't my fault, and it isn't my family's fault. They judge me according to their own past, not my present. In fairness, how could they do otherwise? For whatever it's worth, my advice is try to have as much closeness with your family as you can, afterall, blood is thicker than water. However, please don't let their opinion of you weaken your self-worth or worsen your depression. ( Easy to say I know! ) Their opinion of you is just an opinion, it doesn't define who you are. And, also, sometimes we're closer to the " family " that we find rather than the family we're born into.
Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum ((((((((((((Nightsky)))))))))))) (that's a hug) nice name by the way...
I have found people on this forum supportive and kind and often offering suggestions and advice from their personal experience...its been wonderful for me as I hope it will be for you.
Are you in treatment of any kind?
Families can be difficult, but you can choose your friends. I have "chosen family" whom I am closer to than my blood family.
Welcome, again!
