Hello, New Here

Postby farmerc » Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:20 pm

Good evening, I don't know where to start with this. I guess that we will start off that saying that I'd had a meltdown about 2 weeks ago and was in the hospital for a while and was told that I;ve had been in a state of depression for the last 30 years. They got me on meds now and they don't seem to be working. Today has been a emotional roller coaster for me. Never really being up just more depressed then anything esle. I've no intrest in doing anything must least getting out of bed and going to work. The meds keep me up most of the night lucky to get couple of hours of sleep.. I'm at wits end and don't know what to do any more. Maybe being here may help. I don't know. I'm tired of hurting like this, how long does it take for the meds to work? Can anyone tel me?They got me on Zoloft,Vistaril and Depakote. My wife say that I'm doing great but I don't feel like it. I feel like its worst now then it was before. She wanted to take me back to the hospital tonight but talked her out of it. Maybe I should have went I don't know? Any help Please

(((((((((((((((( farmerc ))))))))))))))))

Welcome to the forums. Truly sorry to hear all that is happening with you. It isn't easy to deal with depression and all that comes with it.

Suggestion: Document how you feel daily, since all the meds are new. Keeping a journal on that will be a great help to your doctor.

Medications are different. Some may work quickly while others can take weeks.

One thing I tend to do is when I am started on a new medication, for whatever reason, I will search it on the computer. Find out what it is to help with, what kind of reactions it can cause, how long it takes to start working properly. There is lots of information on the internet to help you with all this. You will be amazed how complete the information will be.

((((((((((((((((( Your wife )))))))))))) A hug for her being there with you, understanding, caring and trying to all she can for you. You are a lucky man.

Please do some research and don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions. Most doctors respect that a patient is concerned and has those questions to ask.

Let me know how things are going. Okay....take care please.

farmerc - I don't have any other wisdom to add to what Warmsoul said. I am sorry that you have been suffering so long and that things are so tough for you right now. I am glad to read that you have a loving, supportive spouse. Don't give up...please keep talking to your doctor and if you are not feeling better on the meds, let him/her know. Writing on here might be a good outlet for your feelings and frustrations. It works for me.
