I am 55 & going through my 3rd bout of depression, + 1 bout of postnatal depression.
This is the worst bout I have had & taking the longest to recover from.
The only plus side is that this time, my GP referred me to the mental health team, which has been the best thing that has happened to me, (wish I'd been referred on previous occasions).
To cut a long story short, I was admitted to a wonderful mental health unit for 10 days & am now receiving therapy & medication. With my regular therapy, my key worker spotted that I, having been getting better, was starting to relapse which resulted in my psychiatrist adding an additional medication. Now, 2 weeks after that, I finally have a bit of energy, with the hope of more to come.
Life is still a struggle & I have a long way to go but on my good days, am hopeful of recovery.
I would recommend to anyone suffering from severe depression to get a referral to the mental health team, if you haven't yet.
Best wishes to everyone here.
