Hello from Canada

Postby TonyK » Mon Apr 08, 2013 11:02 pm

Greetings everybody :D as you may notice I'm showing off smiley faces :) I don't suffer from Depression but my friend does. In joining this website I hope to learn to be more supportive and understanding to my friend who has Depression and hopefully our friendship will grow.

Welcome. I'm new too - I only joined yesterday. Unfortunately, I do suffer from depression. Its great that you care enough about your friend to want to find out more. Im my opinion, understanding the condition is very important. Looking for warning signs, listen without judging and taking the time to talk (if they're wanting it) are vital in my opinion. Knowing when to seek help is also important. From my experience, the worst thing anyone could say is to 'snap out of it' or 'you should be over it' etc. When depressed, the feelings are real and having someone that empathises goes a long way.
