I was completely skeptical when my therapist suggested an emotional support animal for my depression. It felt too simple. But after months of struggling I adopted a rescue dog named Biscuit and honestly everything started to shift.
Nothing dramatic. Just small things. Getting out of bed earlier. Walking more. Feeling less alone at night. A pet does not fix depression but it interrupts the patterns that make it worse. The isolation. The stillness. The endless overthinking.
I got my ESA letter through My ESA Therapist which meant Biscuit could live with me in my no pet apartment. Removing that stress alone made a bigger difference than I expected.
If you are on the fence about whether a pet could help just know it is not about the animal fixing you. It is about having something that pulls you out of your own head every single day.
Has anyone else experienced this? Would love to hear your stories.
