An old man, a little boy, and a donkey named Hiney were going to town. The little boy rode on Hiney and the old man walked. As they went along, they passed some people who remarked that it was a shame the old man was walking and the little boy was riding.
The old man and the little boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed places, and the old man rode Hiney.
Soon they passed some people who said, "What a shame, he is making that little boy walk."
The old man and the little boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they decided that they would both walk.
Soon they passed a group of people who thought they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride, so they both got on Hiney.
The next group of people told them they should be ashamed of themselves, putting such a load on the poor donkey. The old man and the little boy thought they might be right, so they decided to carry Hiney.
As they crossed a bridge, they slipped on a wet board, lost their grip on Hiney and he fell in the river and drowned.
The moral of this story.......?
If you try to please everyone, eventually you will lose your Hiney.
