Seems that you have a very good understanding of your wife's condition - and that's a very good thing. I know it doesn't make things easier, but it seems that your wife is lucky to have you. :-)

Have you ever heard of Paxil? I don't know much about trazodone; is it a sedative or a daily pill?

Paxil is also called Paroxetine - that's the generic name here in the US. I'm telling you, it helped my anxiety so much... can't say enough about it. I know all drugs work differently with each person, but this drug is specifically for anxiety disorders. It's calmed me down so much that I can put things in perspective and see my irrational fears for what they are... um... irrational!

Have you ever tried to talk to your wife about your demons? Sometimes helping others can help ourselves. She might be glad to help you. But, you know are and I don't. I can see that you are trying to protect her, which is loving and noble, but please remember to protect yourself as well, ok?

From my experience, sedatives are only good for the moment that you take them, and then they wear off. I'm sure it helps her sleep, but it doesn't sound like it's helping her get through the day. Being an anxiety sufferer myself, I know how difficult it is for her. Maybe something to look into?

Hey Ken! Glad you're looking into that, and glad that you are not all bad today. One day at a time, right?

Please let us know how it goes for you, ok? I know in the UK things are called something different than they are in the US, but I'm sure you'll find it. :-)

I'm glad you enjoy my replys - I look forward to yours as well!!!

Let me know how the Paxil goes, ok? I've had nothing but success on it, and would recommend it to anyone with anxiety issues - and mine were very bad, trust me.

xn-

I would be willing to bet I'm the only one on here, except for Monty, who has had ECT, that has tried nearly all the antidepressants out there. I'm on Cymbalta now. The side effects are minimal, and it has been touted the best one on the market now. It does work for me. I spend a lot of time sorting out all the stuff that has to be done before my husband and I check out. We are determined to not end up in low-income nursing homes, forgotten by the world. Both of us have such devasting health problems that it is imperative we don't wait around long enough to see it happen.

When I tried Paxil, Zoloft, Serzone, Prozac, etc, etc, they made me anxious, and cramped up my muscles. Effexor finally worked pretty well, but the Cymbalta is better. Because both of us are unemployed and my husband is fully disabled (I have a hearing on the 19th), our income is so low that we get it free from the company.

Have you tried Xanax for the anxiety? For me and my husband, it is like a fawcet - it just turns the rage, anxiety, fear, dread or whatever right off. I use it to sleep, but I occasionally need one to keep from breaking down. Xanax is a benzodiazepine, sometimes used with general anethesia for surgery, and it makes you forget you felt any pain. So when you wake up in recovery, you won't remember any pain you might have felt before you were completely under. Atavan is like this, and though it is a good adjunct to general anesthesia, it will my you forget EVERYTHING. The effect only lasts for about four hours, but I've had dinner parties, back when I didn't drink at all, that I remember not one minute of. So that's kind of a drag.

And you know that with the SSRIs, it takes 3-4 weeks for them to start having any effect, and that if you are on any now, you have to taper off. Quitting cold turkey is extremely unplesant, not to mention dangerous as hell. It can throw you into the worst depression. I'm sure you know all this, but better safe that sorry.

Off to the next topic -

A.

Hi again... just to be clear regarding my cheerleading for Paxil - I understand that not all drugs work on all people. Some drugs can be a God-send for particular folks, while the same drug can do nothing or have a negative affect on others.

It's tough to figure out which medication works for you. Sometimes it is quite a bit of trial and error before getting it right. Luckily for me, I was able to find the right tablet for me on my second shot. Wellbutrin was first, and made me suicidally depressed and my body felt like I had the flu. The moment I stopped taking it, I felt better.

I came to this realization - I couldn't take a regular anti-depressent because my depression had subsided and my issue became terrible anxiety. The Paxil is desgined for anxiety so it fit well with me. Also, according to my doctor, the generic Paxil has fewer side effects than the generic Wellbutrin, and, due to my insurance, only the generic is affordable for me.

Ok... sorry for the rant, but I did want to be clear that although Paxil saved my sanity, and all of my side effects went away, it might not work for everyone else.

Oh ken! So sorry for your phone misfortune!!! But yes... I did laugh when I read it. :-)

Good for you for saving that ferret. Why do people mistreat animals? I don't understand it... thank God for people like you!
