Can you please help me?

Postby Adcx64 » Wed May 09, 2012 9:19 pm

Hi guys,

I'm 15 years old and suffering from depression. I have a small case of OCD and extreme anxiety. Over the years this has caused me to be depressed. I have been bullied in the past, so now I have very low self esteem. My mind constantly races with bad thoughts and "happy" is not even in my vocabulary anymore. My grades in school plummeted. I tried to explain my problems to my mom, she tells me I'm weak and she only punishes me for my poor grades. No one seems to understand me. She yells and makes my life a living hell be cause she doesn't understand.

Thoughts?

Hi. Welcome to the forum. I dont personally deal with ocd, can you talk to your family doctor? Talk to a counselor at school? A friends parent? Maybe talking to another adult who can talk to your mom can help. Its hard for a parent sometimes to admit that they their child has a problem they can't fix. Plus sometimes people don't understand depression unless they have it. so it makes it a hard situation. Keep trying Don't give up.

My point exactly. She doesn't understand so she tries to hide it. I don't even know what to think anymore with all this happening. I'm helpless.

By the way, the OCD isn't really the problem. The problem is my extreme anxiety that destroys my life.

Perhaps she understands the symptoms

I have a friend whose mom is bi-polar. Her way of keeping the Bi-polar away is a very disciplined order. No one disturbs the order. She is unreasonable and hateful if you don't play along. She is great otherwise. It is likely your mom sees the discipline as a way to avoid or stave off the depression.

Hello Adcx64

It is said that a problem that is well stated is half solved. If that is true, then your problems are half solved already. You have come into this website and explained your situation with great fluency. I like your comment that happy isn't even part of your vocabulary anymore. :-) I agree with your appraisal of your Mom's behavior --- (she doesn't understand)

Perhaps your Mom is right that you are weak but unless you can help the person overcome such a problem, simply telling them something negative like that usually makes things worse instead of better. A bully picks on someone that they think are weak. When you stand up to them, quite often they look around for an easier target to bully.

Don't be a stranger. There are plenty of caring people on this website and you are more than welcome to exchange your ideas with us and hopefully, your situation will improve. One thing for sure is beyond question;, you will discover that you are definitely not alone with your problems. WELCOME ABOARD!!!
