You're making me ...angry
About three weeks or so ago my doctor put me on prozac.... and for the past week or so I have found myself getting angry over things that would not normally bother me and I get the urge to lash out. It is especially bad if I am late taking it for any reason. Is this common? I would be gratefull for feedback..

Hmmm....I did not have this side effect with Prozac. I am sorry that it is making you feel this way. As Ken says, you might want to give it a bit more time and see if things settle down. I am quite impulsive and feel the need to lash out with the Cymbalta I am on now and have to take another drug to calm down that effect. Let us know how it's going.
all prozac did for me was give me violent diarrhoea so i had to quit it quite early. a friend of mine said she self-harmed a lot more when on it but medications can have quite a different effect on different people. i think ken is right in saying give it 6 weeks, that's about as long as those meds need to really kick in

Maybe you should notify the doctor, as they might want to go ahead and switch you. Sometimes side effects go away, sometimes they get worse, but anything I've had a serious problem with I've tried to get switched right away. Doc may say give it more time, or may want to switch you to something else. Different meds have different effects on different people. What works for you may not work for me and vice-versa. Its up to you how troubling this side effect is...suggest you notify the doc if its really bad for you, and switch to something else. If its manageable, then maybe give it a while to see if the side effect goes away.
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time...no fun when medicine meant to help, hurts in some way.

Agree with getting in touch with the doctor and telling s/he of the difficulties you are having.
It would be wonderful if there could be one universal drug that they could prescribe for all of us suffering from depression. Unfortunately different drugs, affect different people, in different ways.
Was in a (face to face) support group a few years ago. It was amazing the number of meds that people were taking that worked, or didn't work, for them. Then witht the person sitting beside them, it was the opposite story.
Take care
