Being obsessed about another culture doesn't sound like escapism to me. I think there is a great shortage of people with such an obsession. Don't make your good quality sound so negative, because it is rare (ie valuable overall, even if not valuable to you personally). Make it a goal to get in conta...

Good thought... Some of us are into portraits (those who do chase relationships), while others into landscapes (like myself), yet there are those who can do (and/or needy for) both, while i guess some may be into neither or into totally different things altogether. What I found was how overwhelmingl...

Sorry to be late commenting on the subject, but suffering and depression seems to be a healthy response by a human being conscious of the futility of individual existance and its overall significance on the scale of the Universe (the way it is portrayed by the modern scientific perspective). So, wha...

Thank you, 4EverMe, for a perspective on human condition of the believers. Myself, rarely a believer, frequently a nihilist, always jelous of the comforts and easy appearance of life of a religious person: the temple gatherings provide the discipline that they like and believe in almost compulsively...

Just remember, Metal Bear, when you feel suicidal, you don't wanna die, you just don't want to live in hell. Good thing: the hell is temporary...bad thing: the break from hell is temporary, too. I found C.B.T. is effective in controlling thoughts, but I found that meditative observation of thoughts ...

yes, Frame, I forgot how many insightful and original statements there are in Ernest Becker's work. I'm currently re-reading the section on psychopathology later on in the book (I think Chapter 9 or 10). What amazes me is how obscure the work is, how rarely cited....maybe because of his implied crit...

Dear Allioncourt, I totally relate to what you are going through. I felt much the same when I was your age and frequently feel the same now, more than 20 years later. Nonetheless, lots of good things happen in between, lots of short-lived friendships had come and gone. I am glad I didn't end it back...

Re: Existential Clash
Rollo May (an American psychologist) once said "Depression is the inability to construct the future". Frame, thank you for starting the discussion that will feed my newly aquired forum addiction. I wonder if constructing future has more to do with the past. How do you know what will happe...

Both bodies of knowledge also suggest that awareness of our true reality is a way to dispel suffering. I'm connecting the above paragraph with inhabit's post: the effort was enormous but I LAUGHED for the first time in months. The people were light hearted and the food was good. Wishing I could hav...

Brief intro.
Hello, my fellow comrades in suffering! I’m new here and I realize how similar your experiences are to mine considering all the minor and major differences of circumstances, genetics and background. I’m a 40 years old single man who is struggling somewhere in the middle (I hope) of his life trajecto...

Although you are suffering, your dark thoughts are NOT going to lead you to dark actions, because you have seen what dark actions do to others from your cousin's unfortunate example. Ask not why he/she did what he/she did (it is always for some reason perfectly valid for them at the time), but why i...
