I feel you on the tweaker. If you are looking for a context to put your bad-ass self in I suggest that you look at Meditations on Violence: A comparison of Martial Arts Training and Real World Violence by Rory Miller. I've been on the barrel end of a gun once ... 35 years ago. I have a friend who wa...

Hey IOM ... this post is meant to be a little cold-hearted. Read your post and compare with the post I think you're talking about. Now do a compare and contrast on the situations. There is a big difference in the triggers. Yet, both respondents have legitimate complaints. Your post reminds me of the...

Shean (and IOM), I think belief in a higher power is part of 12 step programs because it is a tool that makes you think outside of yourself. It works because none of us gets what we want, and some of us think that fact reflects on our worth. IOM's pictures showed that he has lots of self-discipline....

Nice tips. I can vouch for cutting back on sugar, but it is hard to stay on the wagon. I use dried fruit as a reward for being extra productive. In fact if I use up my supply before a set date, I do without. I use any anxiety I feel near the end of the package as a signal to reflect on what's going ...

The truth sets us free, but free isn't the same as happy is it Doogie? We always have a choice, and there is nothing we can do to change the choices we have already made. There is no point in worrying about what happened, and we need to accept that the choices we make will not always make what we wa...

You go Maria! I am fighting with depression, and posting here often makes me think like I'm winning. I get strength from this site .... but the real fight happens after I log off. I like to think of this site as the gatorade jug on the sidelines. Let me take this opportunity to dump the gatorade on ...

My take on spirituality is that its not something you can control. I think I told you about the parking lot bus driver back in the 80s who called me her angel .... and scared me away! It has been more than 200 years since anyone could know everything. Before the industrial revolution it was ...

Star, That is great that you could research that. Is there a historical society in your area? Take a picture of the monument, Write down what you know. Give it to the historical society. History is a process, By contributing drops to the stream you contribute to its flow. Not all the water in the Mi...

Star, I've told my friends and family to pick any day to have a party with me except my birthday. I know birthdays are big for some people, and out of respect for them I try to help them celebrate. But, I love surprises, and I love consistency, so an annual celebration simply doesn't work for me. It...

What Ieris said. One of my heroes is a lady I worked with at two different companies. I enjoyed talking with her at the first one. I was surprised when she joined the second one ... newly married ... with my last name. That made us cousins :D She was a buddhist. At the second company her job was to ...
